Band Biography

Mortor was first born from the creative mind of rhythm guitarist David Paquette. Dave kept this solo project alive in Montréal for a while, but when he moved to the Gatineau and Ottawa region in 2007, he decided to build a full band. In 2008, he gathered the first complete line-up, consisting of himself (rhythm guitar), Matthew Spreitzer Bernier (lead guitar), Dominic Brown (drums), Stéphane Jomphe (bass and back vocals) and Yolin Lafrenière (lead vocals). With a good few songs already in progress, the band set out to perform live shows and bombard the world of Thrash with its fresh, raw sound.

After a full year of hard work, Mortor was ready to head to the studio. During the recording process, the band's drummer was replaced with David Gravel, formerly of the band Nonsense. The new team worked on their breakthrough album with a fervor only matched by the viciousness of their attack on the regional Thrash scene. Finally, during Rockfest 2010, Mortor's Metal Ride was released! Ready to assault and conquer all, the band was once again faced with adversity - one after the other, lead guitarist and bassist left to pursue other commitments. Never willing to give up, Mortor went on a mission to fill the shoes of Matthew and Stéphane.

The wait is now over, and rehearsals have picked back up where they left off. Re-energized by the arrival of Rock Déziel on lead guitar and Jonathan Boulay on bass, Mortor is more ready than ever to hit the stage and show you what it's made of. No obstacle is to big and no venue is to far - Mortor will go wherever invited. Watch out world, the Metal Ride is coming to your town!

'Metal Ride'
Looking west is Canada's (err-hem Quebec's) new coming Death/Thrash quartet (photo is out of date) Mortor. Sticking to the basics of Death/Thrash Metal they make the music more ferocious and destructive, by making the bass more audible, combining and mixing crazy solo's and inserting very deep vocals with perfectly timed percussion beats. This is not your average Death/Thrash musician collection but rather an army on it's own ready to unleash brutality over Planet Metal and take it on the 'Metal Ride', hold on folks its going to be a bumpy ride and remember to keep your hands and feet inside the 666 zone at all times.

Need a fix of 90's thrash with a dash of the modern metal that is well executed? Then look no further. Mortor are a 5 piece from the Ottawa-Gatineau region, that bring a sexy mixture of thrash with modern metal elements to the scene. They have released their CD Metal Ride to the world and it is going to be like a chopper screaming down the highway, taking out anything that is in its way, and leaving a blood trail in its wake.

Having discovered this band during the night of their CD release, I must say it was a delight to the ear. They shared the stage with Accursed Spawn, System Divine, Augury and Aborted.

The album was engineered and mixed by Chris Bonavia and mastered by Matt Connell, who has worked with other bands such as: Deamon, Fuck The Facts, Exhumed and Remnants of a Deity among many other talented artists. Their knowledge and experience at the helm proves its worth on this fantastically produced recording, as all parts are clear and well defined without any compromise between the different instruments.

This 9 track full-length release is unrelenting right from the gripping opener Swallow My Hate that propels its listener into a head banging frenzy with its catchy riffs and tight drum grooves. If you enjoy classic thrash metal in the vein of Obituary, Sepultura and Slayer then I?d bet my first born child that this album will interest you!

People keep complaining about the metal scene nowadays, and why shouldn't they, I'm actually one of them. The thing is, I think we're just not looking in the right places; there's tons of good metal waiting to be discovered out there, you just have to stop digging in the trendy pile with the big labels and huge middle names. Today I'm trying to guide you towards the fucked up side once again, today it's Mortor who will knock your teeth out&

So well, before raising the name of Mortor, let me first say this is a "brand new" band (so to speak). It's just a bunch of crazy heads that thought it would be cool to play as loud and as fast as they possibly can, yeah, just like in the old metal days. Of course, they sound heavily influenced by bands like Sodom and the likes, and they do show it relentlessly (there's even that "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" audio clip from the movie "Apocalypse Now"), but at least these Canadian sickos play their guts out no strings attached.

Metal Ride it's a bludgeoning attack that caught me off guard; yes, it's an independent debut, but damn those guys can really fucking play. The vocal assault ripped me to pieces to be honest, and the music barely gives you air to breathe; my complain would be in the songwriting though, as showcasing your capabilities by sounding just like that famous band you love, it's just not really a smart move. This band has huge potential; I just hope they stop listening to their dusty vinyl collection and start writing material to fuck newcomers minds, I don't want to sound cocky at all, but to me it just sounds like they are trying hard to please the audience before pleasing themselves&but that's just me thinking&

I barely listen to metal nowadays, not because I don't have what it takes anymore, but it was hard enough to see bands like Cryptopsy and Aborted sellout while discovering that even bands like Gorgoroth and Marduk were 100% money driven. I just discovered that I prefer listening to independent bands like Mortor, which are still doing this for fun rather than gold, and that I just can't bear the fact that Metal became the nicest trend for the whole family.
